A list

I'm often asked, if there were no God, what would've inspired all the great artworks that we have in this world? As a lover of art, this is an important question to me. So here's a brief list of things which have or could inspire non-theistic artwork.

  • Nature (eg, the Romantics)
  • History (Death of Socrates, anyone?)
  • Human Emotion (Munch's Scream)
  • Speculation (Jules Verne and the birth of Sci-fi)
  • Technology (The Futurists)
  • Other art (How many paintings of violins did the Cubists do?)
  • Lifestyles (German Expressionism)
  • Politics (Constructivism)
  • Anti-art (Dada)
  • Dreams (I'm currently writing an essay based around Surrealism)
I think that should do for now. I don't deny that theism has provided us with great art, but to say we would be  without art if we were without God is demonstrably false.
